Five Things, July 19: Comic Book Workshop, FRE3DOM and More

Today is Friday, July 19, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Comic Book Workshop: Today at 1:30 p.m., the Coventry Public Library will host cartoonist Eric Fulford who will lead a Comic Book Character Workshop. Kids will learn how to design and illustrate a comic book cover from the ground up!

FRE3DOM at OTD: At 9 p.m. tonight, Olde Theater Diner (33 Sandy Bottom Rd.) will feature underground electronic artist FRE3DOM, who specializes in Tech-House, Dubstep and Glitch-Hop music with unique techno and funk elements. Opening sets will be performed by AFROKEN and ICKY. Doors open at 8 p.m. $10 per person at the door.

Fused Glass Class: Today is the last day to register for Greene Public Library's "Fun Fused Glass Class", scheduled for Wednesday, July 31 at 10 a.m. Artist Deenie Pacik Giulano will be visiting the Library (179 Hopkins Hollow Rd., Greene) that morning to teach children and teens how to create and decorate fused glass pendants inspired by their favorite books using pre-cut glass, crushed glass, powders and dichroic glass. Medication Seminar: The Outreach Committee of SS John & Paul Church (341 South Main St.), invites residents to bring their prescription and over-the-counter medications in a brown bag, to the SSJP Community Affairs Workshop on July 29. A light supper, free of charge, will be served at 5:30 p.m., immediately followed by a presentation by a local pharmacist on the interaction of medications and why it is important of expiration dates. The pharmacist will review the brown bag contents with each guest privately. All are invited to attend. Registration is required by July 22 and can be done by calling 821-5764 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Plan Ahead - Pasta Dinner Fundraiser: Tickets are now available for the July 27 fundraising event, "Raising the Roof On Humanity", a pasta dinner organized by the wives and significant others of the Central Coventry firefighters, with the hopes of raising enough money to repair the leaking roof of the late CCFD Battalion Chief Bill Hall's house. The dinner will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the West Warwick Elks Club (60 Clyde St., West Warwick) and will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
