Five Things, July 11: SNAP Outreach, BBQ Registration and More

Today is Thursday, July 11, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Chicken Barbecue in Greene: Last day to register! The Greene Library Association (GPLA) will host a Chicken Barbecue from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, July 14 at Greene Public Library (179 Hopkins Hollow Rd., Greene) to raise funds for the GPLA. The meal will feature chicken, assorted salads and dessert. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12, or $25 for a family of four. Call David Underwood today at 397-3962 to make a reservation.

SNAP Outreach: Today at 11 a.m. the Coventry Senior Center (50 Wood St.) will host a representative from the RI Community Food Bank who will be available to answer questions about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and assist residents who wish to apply.

Artisans and Crafters: The Friends of the Coventry Public Library are now accepting applications for artisans and crafters for the 3rd Annual Fall Artisan Fair to be held on Saturday, Oct. 5. Contact Virginia at lynchkids96@verizon.net or call (401) 826-1122 for an application or more information.

LVKC Conversation Class (Begins Today!): Are you someone you know an adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) student? If so, register today for the Coventry Public Library and Literacy Volunteers of Kent County (LVKC)'s Group Conversation Class! The free small-group program is designed to help students maximize their English-speaking skills. Students will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Coventry Town Hall Council Chambers for 1.5 hours a week for 10 weeks (July 11-Aug. 29). Class size is limited to 10, so registration is required and can be done by calling 822-9103.

Plan Ahead - Pasta Dinner Fundraiser: Tickets are now available for the July 27 fundraising event, "Raising the Roof On Humanity", a pasta dinner organized by the wives and significant others of the Central Coventry firefighters, with the hopes of raising enough money to repair the leaking roof of the late CCFD Battalion Chief Bill Hall's house. The dinner will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the West Warwick Elks Club (60 Clyde St., West Warwick) and will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
