Five Things, July 2: Summer Reading, Election Hearing and More

Today is Tuesday, July 2, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Editor on Vacation: The Financial Town Meeting is over, school is out, and the CCFD board election is behind us - which means that it's about time for me to hide my laptop and take some much-needed vacation time. I will be away from Patchlandia starting July 1 and will return on Tuesday, July 9. Meanwhile, please contact Field Editor Erin Tiernan who will be taking the reins this week at erin.tiernan@patch.com.

Greene Library Summer Reading: Registration for Greene Public Library's 6-week summer reading program, "Dig Into Reading", will take place this evening at 6 p.m. at the library (179 Hopkins Hollow Rd., Greene). Children entering grades 1-5 are invited to help kick-off the program and make a neat craft!

CCFD Election Hearing: Tomorrow, July 2, at 9:30 a.m., there will be a Status Hearing regarding the results of Saturday's Central Coventry Fire District Board of Directors election. The hearing will be held in Courtroom 11 of Providence County Superior Court, located at 250 Benefit Street in Providence.

Fireworks Donations: Coventry's Annual Johnson's Pond 4th of July Fireworks Display is only days away, but members of the Johnson's Pond Civic Association who put on the beloved spectacle still need your help! Due to the combination of rising costs and declining contributions, the display has been reduced to some extent for the past two years and is in jeopardy of repeating the trend. If you would like to make a donation to keep the tradition alive, visit www.jpca.myevent.com to donate online or send a check with "Fireworks Contribution" in the memo line to: JPCA, P.O. Box 123, Coventry, RI, 02816. Every little bit helps!

Greene Farmers Market: Skip the grocery store tonight and pick up some fresh veggies, breads and pies at Greene Library's Farmers Market! From 4-7 p.m. each Tuesday through September, the Library (179 Hopkins Hollow Rd.) will host the community market that also offers plants, original craftwork and more. If you would like to become a vendor or need more details, call the call the library at 397-3873 or contact Gail at gail@coventrylibrary.org.
