Annual 4th of July Fireworks Display Needs Your Help!

The annual celebration is in dire need of donations.

If you're a Coventry resident, you've probably found a spot somewhere around Johnson's Pond or at Coventry High School each year to view the Annual Johnson's Pond 4th of July Fireworks Display. After all, it is a Coventry tradition.

Unfortunately, this tradition funded mainly by Johnson's Pond residents and generous local business owners, is in jeopardy of being significantly downsized if donations do not pick up over the next several days.

Due to the combination of rising costs and declining contributions, the display has been reduced to some extent for the past two years. Aside from the cost of the fireworks themselves, required police and fire details cost the Johnson's Pond Civic Association more than $5,000 last year.

For 2013, JPCA organizers have set a fundraising goal of $15,500 to cover the display and all expenses associated with it. As of Sunday afternoon, the Association had a donation total of $6,006.

Residents from all over Coventry enjoy this family-friendly event each year and members of the JPCA are asking each family to consider donating even a small amount as every little bit helps the cause.
