This Weekend in Coventry: Antique Trucks, New Biz in Town and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Girls Softball Golf Tourney: The Coventry Girls Softball League will hold its Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Wood River Golf Course (78 Woodville Alton Rd., Hope Valley). Format will be Shotgun/Scramble Play. Entry fee is $100 per player or $400 per team and includes green dee, cart, appetizer hour, dinner, t-shirt and prizes. (Tickets for appetizer hour and dinner only are available for $30 per person). Registration begins at 8 a.m. This is an adult only event. Block Partayyy: Club Jogues, (184 Boston St.), is hosting an outdoor Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 24 featuring live music and food for purchase. Admission is $10 per person, children under 12 are guests of the Club. Call 787-1670 for more information.

Tour a Historical Coventry Landmark! Did you know that Spring 2013 marked the Nathanael Greene Homestead's 89th season as a museum? Take a tour at 50 Taft Street in Coventry to learn all about Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene who lived in the home, known as Spell Hall, from 1770 to 1776. Tours are given Fridays, Saturdays (and Mondays too!) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, from 1-5 p.m. Click here to visit the Homestead's Facebook page for more information.

Weekend Fun at CPL: On Saturday mornings, the Coventry Public Library hosts Drop-In Crafts to Make & Take where children of all ages can create a fun craft project to take him. Also offered on Saturday mornings is Drop-In Games, during which kids of any change can play board games with friends. No registration required.

PYO Berries: From 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at Alpacas of Harkney Hill (1394 Harkney Hill Rd.), customers can "Pick Your Own" low and high-growing wild blueberries and huckleberries to purchase. Informational alpaca demonstrations are also offered at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes! For more information, call 397-4761.

NE Farm and Artist: This Saturday from 3-6 p.m., stop by the Grand Opening of New England Farm and Artist, newly open for business at 1112 Main St., Coventry. The unique shop showcases work and products of local artisans, artists and farmers, as well as a community space where classes, workshops and seminars will be held. Light refreshments will be served.

Rice City Barbecue: Rice City Church (63 Vaughn Hollow Rd., Greene), will hold a Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 24 with seatings at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Menu includes chicken, tossed salad, potato salad, macaroni salad and watermelon. Antique Truck Show: The RI Antique Truck Club will hold its 10 Year Anniversary Antique Truck Show on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine at the RI-CONN Historical Air Field (2357 Plainfield Pike, Coventry). Cost is $10 per show vehicle and a canned good to benefit the RI Community Food Bank. Visitor admission is four or more canned goods or $5 per person.
