PHOTOS: Hopkins Hill Students and Parents Walk to School For a Cause

The school community celebrated International Walk to School Day on Thursday morning.

Approximately 150 students and their parents (and some pooches), along with teachers, began their day by walking from the corners of Hopkins Hill Road and Johnson Blvd. as well as from Arnold Road and Johnson’s Blvd. Although the weather was a bit brisk at 8:30 a.m., the exercise warmed the cheerful crowd up quickly.

Members of the and the ensured the walkers could walk to school safely by controlling traffic flow down the road and leading the group with an ambulance escort.

The walk was in celebration of , that was widely celebrated on Wednesday. The program emphasizes the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling as well as the importance of issues like increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment.
