Driver Critically Injured in Main Street Crash

The accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday.

A North Kingstown man was critically injured early Saturday when the vehicle he was driving struck a chain-link fence and telephone pole in Coventry, according to police.

The driver, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in the crash.

When arriving on scene around 1:15 a.m., firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the victim from the car. Reports say he was traveling west on Main Street when he lost control of his Porsche shortly after passing Station Street.

Police reported tire marks on the road and note that there were no obvious skid marks from breaking found.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
