Is Your Spouse Cheating? Local Investigator Explains The Signs

Although Feb. 14 is the traditional day for lovers, Feb. 13 is the unofficial "mistress day" according to a private investigator

Valentine's Day is this Thursday, but there is a less romantic aspect to the holiday than roses and chocolates. According to a private investigator, if your spouse is having an affair, this is a good time to catch a cheater. “You have to satisfy the mistress,” said Vic Pichette, Private investigator and owner of Genesis Investigations. He said the cheater, either a man or woman, will most likely buy gifts and/or see the person on a day close to Valentine’s Day.  It's so common, claims Pichette, that in his profession, February 13 has been dubbed "Mistress Day." How do you know if your spouse is cheating? We sat down with the private investor to learn some common signs:  "It takes time to cheat,” said the investigator. “It takes planning…

Valentine's Day Chocolate Showdown: How do Different Chocolate Products Stack Up?

How well do you know your chocolates?

Chocolate is a staple of Valentine's Day, and for good reason. It's a sinfully sweet treat, of course, but it also contains flavonoids, a type of antioxidant that has been shown to have health benefits for the very target of Cupid's arrow – the heart. However, not all chocolate products are created equal: They can vary wildly in flavonoid content, fat and calories, and quality of ingredients. So how can you be sure you're expressing your love with the healthiest chocolate option? According to dietitian Gloria Tsang, author of the new book Go UnDiet: 50 Small Actions for Lasting Weight Loss and founder of nutrition network HealthCastle.com, many products you might find in the chocolates section of your grocery store or gift shop have much…

Five Things

Five Things You Need To Know Today, February 14

Today is Tuesday, Feb. 14. Here are five things you need to know:

Happy Valentine's Day! Contrary to what some may believe, Valentine's Day wasn't created by greetings card companies just to sell cards and candies. It's actually a church sanctioned holiday, as Pope Gelasius deemed February 14 St. Valentine's Day near 498 A.D. CPL Drop-In Games: Children are invited to visit the Coventry Public Library's Youth Services Department from 3-5 p.m. to play board games with other library friends. Select a game from the list, ask a librarian for the game you'd like to play and have fun! Greene Library Tea Time: Greene Library hosts a special tea/coffee time on Tuesday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. each week. Come on in and socialize with others or just enjoy a good book by the fire. Bring your friends! School …

Patrick that's a whole other topic. It's also a huge problem. No pun intended. One of the problems with these smaller departments is there is no academy to attend like the cities fire depts. and municipal police dept's are required to do. Some nationally recognized training is req'd but for the most part much of their training is done in-house or with a Train-the-trainer style program. It doesn't…   more ›

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas, Usual and Unique

Peruse our gift list, and add your suggestions.

Two years ago, a dear friend sought my advice on what to get his girlfriend for Valentine's Day. His idea? A lamp. Because nothing says I love you quite like a lamp.... Don't get me wrong — I'm all about practical gifts. But when it comes to Valentine's Day, I believe sentiments or surprises should come from the heart, and be about the person you love, not about fulfuling their lighting needs. After a little bit of coaching, my friend settled on a necklace from a local artist. His girlfriend loved the gift, not only because it was pretty, but because it would remind her of him throughout the day, even when they were apart. Remember too, Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about spending a lot of (or any) money. The way to a loved one's …

Get Carded This Valentine's Day

Depending on the circumstances, getting carded can actually be fun!

On the rare occasion that I am out shopping alone, or when I have a little leisure time and don’t have to crank my pacemaker up all the way to keep me from overheating on the days I’m scurrying from one errand to the next, one of my favorite ways to let loose is to head into town and try to get carded. Although it’s no secret that I enjoy a glass of wine every now and again – I didn’t earn the nickname “Mama Merlot” for nothing – I’m not talking about my current fantasy of being asked to show proper ID at the liquor store.  My days of having to furnish my license when I purchase anything fermented long passed since the birth of my sixth or seventh child (I can’t remember now).  My guess is the fact that I smelled like sour milk or had …

Valentine Folklore And Fallacies

A look how the Valentine's Day we're all familiar with came to be.

A few nights ago, as I was nodding off I heard the infamous Dr. Phil mention on a late night talk show that he boycotts Valentine's Day, that it is the brainchild of clever corporate advertising. The next day, as I jockeyed for a position before the rows of greeting cards and searched for some affordable roses, I could understand his point. Prompted by the experience I decided to search the web and was amazed to find that the celebration is shrouded in folklore and mysterious tales that can be traced back to the 4th century. There were several individuals named Valentine, each with a slightly different input on what became known as St. Valentine’s Day. Perhaps the most widely accepted was a priest who during the reign of Claudius, a …
