It's a shame that many of us stress ourselves out to the point of exhaustion around holiday time, when we should be in a joyous and relaxed mood. For those whose lives are moving at warp speed, here are a few reminders as we approach the holiday dedicated to giving thanks. 1. If you purchased or plan to purchase a turkey weighing 21 pounds or less, you should make sure that you've moved that bird from the freezer to the refrigerator because he's going to need time to thaw. 2. Think about it. Is there anyone in your circle of friends and family or beyond, who may be alone on Thanksgiving. Not that there's anything wrong with a contemplative day alone. Students at Washington Oak School had a Feinstein Food Drive to benefit the Coventry Food Bank. They are pictured here with their Principal Dr. Donna Raptakis during their "Crazy Mixed Match Day" where they dressed in all kinds of clothing that didn't match and had a great time! Students collected over 2,000 items from this day and their Fall Harvest Festival. Washington Oak are a Feinstein Leadership school and a PBIS School exhibiting "Responsible, Safe and Respectful Behavior."

Most are eager to share holiday with family and friends.
Many shoppers on Tuesday at Wal-Mart in the Centre of New England were eager to share why they and millions of Americans will be happy to celebrate Thanksgiving of 2011. But even in the wake of a struggling economy, only a few people among the dozens interviewed, from high school students to seniors, grumbled about being “not so thankful” for the upcoming holiday. “I am happy to make a difference during the holiday where I work nearby as a housekeeping supervisor at a senior citizens assisted-living center,” said Mary Lou Ackert of Coventry. Joseph Golomboski, a Johnston Tea Party member, said it “was more about the family. But I also like to give back to the community through a food drive. We filled two boxes full of food from into two …

Thanksgiving is a time for feasts, family and football. But is it the greatest holiday? You decide.
Nothing beats Thanksgiving. But that’s just me. The food. The football. The tradition. The desserts. The family. The Thursday leading into the long weekend. Did I mention the desserts? Like the chocolate pecan pie? For me, they’ve always combined to create the best holiday of the year. But I know that’s not universal. Some are partial to Christmas. Others like the summer holidays. And plenty love a little Halloween trickery. For me, it’s always been Thanksgiving. What about you?
Students in the culinary arts department at Coventry High School prepared more than 200 full Thanksgiving meals to be delivered to those in need.
Hundreds of Coventry residents will enjoy a happier Thanksgiving thanks to students in the culinary arts program at Coventry High School. The students cooked and packaged 205 full Thanksgiving meals with all the fixings, included stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables and, of course, cranberry sauce, to go with apple cobbler for dessert. Coventry Human Services personnel will deliver the meals to the elderly and special needs residents who are unable to get out of the house and may not have had a Thanksgiving dinner otherwise. The students prepared the meals in the school's professional kitchen, attached to the Knotty Oak Room, an in-school restaurant open to the public. The Knotty Oak Room is open Wednesdays and Thursdays 11:30 a.m…

We may not want to believe it, but the holiday season is nearly upon us. With only two weeks until Thanksgiving — and just 43 days left 'til Christmas — now is the time to plan for holiday meals, arrange for guests and join the masses at the mall. More importantly, it's also time to think of those less fortunate. While help is needed throughout the year, the holiday season helps remind us to lend a helping hand whenever we can. Soon, Santa's helpers will be ringing their bells in front of the supermarket and local food pantries will be holding frequent food drives. The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is always in need of more non-perishable items to stock its shelves, and charities everywhere step up efforts to raise needed funds. So how …
