Tomasso Praises Beginning Teacher Mentor Program

The program is a Race to the Top initiative.

Rep. Lisa P. Tomasso (D – Dist. 29,  Coventry, West Greenwich) is hoping the public will be able to gain a better understanding of how federal funding is being used to implement the latest strategy in the Race To The Top initiative: the Rhode Island Beginning Teacher Induction Program. The mentoring program allows new teachers to receive support and guidance from an experienced educator and mentor, who will make recommendations on classroom changes and teaching methods based on data collected during the year. Representative Tomasso noted that the Race To The Top Steering Committee heard a full presentation on Tuesday about the benefits of the data-driven support program for educators who are just starting out. “The commencement of the …

Representatives Guthrie, Tomasso Organize Foreclosure-Prevention Meeting at Town Hall

Unemployed homeowners should call 401-277-1500 for an appointment to begin the HHFRI application process.

An informational and open-to-the-public meeting on the foreclosure-prevention program Hardest Hit Fund Rhode Island (HHFRI) will be held on Wednesday (Oct. 17), at Coventry Town Hall Council Chambers, 1675 Flat River Road. The presentation will start at 6 p.m.  Representatives Scott J. Guthrie and Lisa Tomasso are urging homeowners to attend the meeting as the HHFRI program has become easier for Rhode Islanders having difficulty making mortgage payments to get assistance.  Among the criteria, homeowners who are unemployed, and believe they may qualify can contact the HHFRI Center, 401-277-1500, directly to get an appointment to begin the HHFRI application process. Homeowners with financial hardships other than unemployment will continue …

With all due respect, I would appreciate it if you didn't put words in my mouth. Second, I am a free-thinking adult, and I do not subscribe unconditionally to any group or ideology. I support a plan that will help our small business owners succeed so that they can grow their business, and hire more employees. I support a plan to stop spending money that we don't have. I want a state that will …   more ›

Tomasso Lauds Ongoing Route 3 Safety Improvements

The latest restriping project is following her request for a traffic study.

STATE HOUSE – After calling for a traffic study for the section of Route 3 that winds through West Greenwich last year, Rep. Lisa P. Tomasso (D – Dist. 29, Coventry, West Greenwich) is proud to announce that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is expected to complete its traffic safety improvements to the stretch next month. After garnering approval from West Greenwich officials last month and the Coventry Traffic Calming Committee this week, RIDOT is quickly moving forward with its plan to create a center turn lane on a section of Route 3 from Route 95 in West Greenwich to Harkney Hill Road in Coventry. Initially a wide four-lane roadway, a small portion of it will now become a narrower five-lane design to ensure that …

Assuming that the statement regarding the concerns from Exit 6 to Mishnock Rd is accurate, IMHO the most significant traffic hazard is the merge from Exit 6 traffic into the lane of travel on Route 3. In countless personal observations and close calls, many drivers fail to yield much less even look for oncoming Route 3 traffic with frequent disregard by drivers on Route 3 failing to slow for …   more ›

Tomasso Takes Stand Against Compassion Center Resale

Tomasso is concerned with patient care in regards to the resale of surplus marijuana to compassion centers.

Rep. Lisa P. Tomasso (D-Dist. 29, Coventry, West Greenwich) expressed disappointment at the passage of legislation (2012-H 7888A), which clears the way for medical marijuana compassion centers to open in Rhode Island because of its provision allowing caregivers to resell surplus marijuana back to the centers. The representative introduced an amendment striking the provision allowing that method of resale. “I served on the Health, Education and Welfare Committee and passed this bill, but not without expressing these concerns,” Representative Tomasso said. “Under the current law, a registered qualifying patient registered primary caregiver may give marijuana to another registered qualifying patient or registered primary caregiver to whom …

Agreed, Robin! It's unfortunate that the mistakes of others ruin it for the people who actually benefit from the product.   more ›
