Coventry Students to Participate At Construction Career Day

RIDOT Construction Career Days provide students with a hands-on experience in various trades.

  Students from the Regional Career and Technical Center at Coventry High School will participate on Thursday at the RI Department of Transportation's 13th Annual Construction Career Days. Construction Career Days will be held on from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 25, at RIDOT's Midstate Maintenance Facility, located at 2400 New London Tpke. in East Greenwich. The Rhode Island Dept. of Transportation (RIDOT) has once again teamed up with the Federal Highway Administration and the URI Transportation Center (URITC) to host the two-day event that provides high school students hands-on training in transportation trades. Culinary Students Prepare 3,000 Cupcakes for RI Hospital Anniversary

The cupcakes were part of Rhode Island Hospital's 150th anniversary festivities on March 13.

  On March 11, nearly 30 Culinary Arts students from the Regional Career and Technical Center at Coventry High School baked, frosted, decorated and packaged 3,000 cupcakes for Rhode Island Hospital's 150th Anniversary celebration. Each employee of the hospital received either a chocolate or vanilla cupcake on Mar. 13 in commemoration of the event. Rhode Island Hospital officials asked the Rhode Island American Culinary Federation to prepare the cupcakes, and in turn RIACF contacted the Career Center to have its Culinary Arts students lend a hand. Over the course of the school day, students teamed up to create the 3,000 baked goodies which were then frosted and garnished with "Happy Birthday" toppers. Materials for the immense culinary …

CHS Students Build 'DAWG HAUS' for FEMA/RIEMA Outreach Program

Carpentry students built a structure that demonstrates improved building techniques used to prevent damage from storm events.

  Three seniors in Scott Leavitt's carpentry class at the Regional Career and Technical Center at Coventry High School were given the opportunity to showcase their skills while demonstrating stronger building techniques for communities at risk of storm damage. Mark Kucal, Eddie Bailey and Thomas Maulodin were selected by Leavitt to construct a scale model FEMA "DAWG HAUS" (Disaster Avoidance with Good Home Attenuating Unionization System) out of scrap supplies from their classroom to demonstrate safer and stronger building techniques. Leavitt explained that he chose the three students because of their future involvement in the SkillsUSA competition in March where they will utilize the skills they have learned to compete against students …

Regional Career Center to Hold Open House

The Regional Career & Technical Center at Coventry High School will hold its Annual Open House on Wednesday.

  The following was provided by Career Center Director Lori Ferguson. The Regional Career & Technical Center will be holding its annual open house on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. Students in grades 8 through 10 from Coventry, Scituate, Foster/Glocester, West Warwick, Exeter/West Greenwich, East Greenwich and/or North Kingstown should plan to attend if they are interested in any of the following career paths: Automotive/Marine/Diesel Technology, Carpentry/Construction, Computer Information Technology/Video Game Design, Cosmetology/Barber/Nail Technician, Culinary Arts/Food Service/Baking, Early Childhood Education, Graphics Communication/Printing, and Health Careers/CNA.  Since the adoption of the newly revised Regulations of the …
