DEM Announces Opening of Small Game Hunting Season On Oct. 20

DEM has outlined the laws and regulations for the 2012-13 hunting season in the attached document.

  The Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife has set seasons and bag limits for the Rhode Island small game hunting season that begins on Saturday, Oct. 20. Seasons and bag limits for small game were set following a public hearing that was held in June. The 2012-13 Hunting and Trapping Season Abstract (see attached PDF) summarizes various laws and regulations affecting wildlife and specifies season dates and bag limits for game species. The hunting season abstract is available from all license vendors, DEM's Division of Fish and Wildlife offices in North Scituate and West Kingston, and DEM's Licensing Office at DEM Headquarters in Providence.  Hunting is a traditional recreational pastime in Rhode Island …

Town To Acquire 175 Acres of Open Space

A $325,000 DEM grant will fund the purchase in western Coventry.

Coventry is set to expand its collection of open space by 175 acres, thanks to a grant from the state Department of Environmental Management. Coventry Land Trust received $325,000 Wednesday to acquire the land in western Coventry adjacent to Neylon Property Conservation Area. The land abuts abuts the Coventry Greenway, and there is already a trail system on the property, adding to its recreational value, DEM said in a release. DEM awarded 15 grants totaling $4.3 million, allowing communities, land trusts and conservation organizations to protect about 900 acres of open space and farmland.
