Pink t-shirts were purchased by firefighters across Rhode Island during the Pink Heals “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign.

The RI Pink Heals has once again teamed up with firefighters throughout the State of Rhode Island to wear pink tee shirts while on duty to support the women of RI with ALL types of cancer. The shirts were worn by all the participating fire departments from Oct. 21-28, 2012. This year, the shirts also have the name “Jenna” on the left sleeve to remember 9-year-old Jenna Jacques who passed away on July 6, 2012 from brain cancer. Jenna Jacques was an advocate for childhood cancer in RI and also who the RI Pink Heals named their pink rescue after. It was also special to put Jenna’s name on our shirts because Wednesday, Oct. 24th would have been her 10th birthday. Firefighters throughout RI purchased 1,541 shirts with their own money, …

Rhode Island Pink Heals are visiting fire departments across the state this week in support of women with cancer.
RI Pink Heals, the local chapter of a national cancer awareness organization featuring trademark pink rescue vehicles, has been making its rounds across Rhode Island this week as part of its third annual "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" tour. They will be at Western Coventry Fire Department (1110 Victory Hwy., Greene) on Oct. 24 from 6-7 p.m. and at Central Coventry Fire District (240 Arnold Rd.) on Oct. 25 from 4-5 p.m. During the Heals' stop at the Johnston Fire Department on Oct. 23, Ted Dion, president of the chapter, explained that this year's effort is dedicated to Jenna Jacques, a young girl who died in July following a battle with cancer. RI Chapter of Pink Heals takes the next step in the fight against cancer.
A pink fire truck and matching police car are not something you see everyday. However, for the organization Pink Heals, these vehicles are an iconic symbol of the group’s efforts to raise support, help and awareness for women with cancer. Run by firefighters and police personnel who volunteer their time, the pink truck and police car are just one way that Pink Heals raises awareness against cancer. The chapter is now celebrating its forth year and often collaborates with other chapters across the nation.
