Power Outages Possible as Strong Winds Blow

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory as strong winds and isolated power outages continue on Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended a wind advisory on Thursday morning as strong, damaging winds from a passing nor'easter continue to effect Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Although Coventry has remained virtually untouched by power outages, throughout the state about 4,668 Rhode Island customers were in the dark at 8:15 a.m., according to National Grid's power outage map. Gusts of up to 45 mph with sustained winds of 20 mph to 30 mph are expected to last through 3 p.m. today. "Winds this strong are capable of downing small tree limbs and branches, possibly causing isolated power outages," states the advisory issued by the NWS in Taunton, MA. Strong Coastal Storm Expected Wednesday

Windy conditions could be more problematic due to trees and limbs damaged by Sandy.

  As we clean up after Sandy, Rhode Islanders might need to prepare for another storm expected to arrive on Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, a significant coastal storm is expected to impact Southern New England and the coastal waters on Wednesday. The storm's track and timing are still uncertain. Potential impacts from this coastal storm could include: It'll be a chilly rain, too: The forecast for Coventry is for a high near 46 on Wednesday and a low around 36 on Wednesday night, followed by a high near 49 on Thursday and a low around 34 that night.
