Our cake didn't get as thick as we hoped, but in most cases it will be thick enough for you to slice through the middle (so you have a top and a bottom). In the middle, you can spread jam if you want. We made custard to go with ours (from a packet-- just add water) which we'll drizzle over the top of slices. Custard could be made thick and spread through the center if you want. You can also serve your sponge cake with whipped cream, ice cream, or sliced fruit. It's a nice plain cake so it will be easy to mix and match it with whatever you like. To get really authentic, brew some PG Tips tea to enjoy with your cake.
