Zoning Board Approves Airstrip Special Use Permit
The controversial Special Use Permit application for a private airstrip on Town Farm Road has sparked much debate in recent months.
At the April 10 meeting of the Coventry Zoning Board of Review, Board members made the decision in a 4-to-1 vote, to approve a Special Use Permit application submitted by Thomas Miozzi, owner and operator of Green Light Farm, LLC on Town Farm Road. Miozzi requested permission to complete a 2,000' x 30' private airstrip and construct a 40' x 50' accessory hangar to store his two small planes in addition to a single family residence that he would reside in. The controversial Special Use Permit application for a private airstrip in Western Coventry sparked much debate at the most recent Zoning Board of Review meeting.
Dozens of Coventry residents turned out to Wednesday night's meeting of the Coventry Zoning Board of Review in response to a Special Use Permit application submitted by Thomas Miozzi, owner and operator of Green Light Farm, LLC on Town Farm Road. Miozzi wishes to complete a 2,000' x 30' private airstrip and construct a 40' x 50' accessory hangar to store his two small planes in addition to a single family residence that he would reside in. He also plans to grow organic vegetables on either side of the airstrip which will be sold at a roadside farm stand. After receiving numerous inquiries this week, I checked in with local officials to find out some more information regarding a controversial item on the Feb. 6 Zoning Board of Review meeting agenda. Applicant, Green Light Farm, LLC, is seeking a Special Use Permit to construct a 2,000' x 30' private airstrip and a 40' x 50' hangar with a single family residence on Assessor's Plat 330, Lot 30 on Town Farm Road, which currently contains a gravel pit. The applicant has completed the process of converting the gravel pit into a private gravel airstrip - a project that did not require a specific permit. The ocassional noise on Saturdays will forever take away the silence residents currently have to sleep in on their day off and day of rest. The noise test came in at over 100 DbA.
