Public Education Foundation Strives to Enhance Learning Experience

Foundation members work to raise community awareness about their efforts.

  Members of the Coventry Public Education Foundation (CPEF) have spent the past two years working to organize fundraisers, community events and grant opportunities for educators in order to enrich the public education experience for students and teachers. What originally began as an alternative funding task force through the Coventry School Committee, is now a certified 501c(3), 14-member volunteer board, with an eventual goal of having 17 members (at least three of which will be non-voting members to provide guidance.) Public Education Foundation Presents Four Grant Awards

The grants will help selected educators improve their lessons.

  During the June 19 School Committee meeting, members of the Coventry Public Education Foundation presented four grant awards to Coventry educators to be used to purchase classroom tools and materials. Foundation Secretary Audrey LaChance gave a brief background of the foundation and spoke to attendees about past awards that have been given out including nearly 1,000 "Phonics Phones" to Coventry elementary schools and basketball equipment to Coventry High School in conjunction with a shoot-out fundraiser. "Through fund-raising efforts and generous donations, these are the first annual academic grants that we've given out," said LaChance.
