Coventry EMA Urges Residents to Stay Off Roads

DPW workers and National Grid are cleaning up and restoring power after the blizzard.

  The Town of Coventry Emergency Management Staff (EMA) in cooperation with all Emergency Response Agencies, the Department of Public Works and Human Services Agencies of the Town of Coventry are maintaining services during the aftermath of Winter Storm Nemo. Emergency response by fire, police, department of public works and human services support is prepared and ready to respond to the community’s needs. Please understand that travel remains difficult after this storm. This also applies to Emergency Vehicles. Points: 1. A warming center at the Coventry Senior Center (50 Wood St.) is still open and available to residents without power on Saturday. 2. Coventry EMA Addresses Winter Storm Nemo

Town officials have declared a State of Emergency for Coventry.

  The Town of Coventry Emergency Management Staff (EMA) in cooperation with all Emergency Response Agencies, the Department of Public Works and Human Services Agencies of the Town of Coventry continue preparations for Winter Storm Nemo. The Coventry EMA staff is currently monitoring the storm and working hand-in-hand with the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency to gather information needed to make critical storm related decisions. If not, please call the Coventry Police Department at 826-1100 and ask to be placed on the registry. Coventry EMA: Halloween Activities, Yard Waste Pickup and Parking Ban

Town offices, schools and town services will resume regular operations on Wednesday.

  The Town of Coventry Emergency Management Staff (EMA) is currently working with our Dept. of Public Works and National Grid crews to clear roads and restore power to our residents.   Points to note: SHELTER OPERATIONS: The Shelter located at the Coventry High School (40 Reservoir Rd.) closed at 12:00 noon today. For additional storm related recovery information you may go to the Town of Coventry website at http://www.town.coventry.ri.us/. Town of Coventry Declares State of Emergency

A voluntary evacuation has been declared for campgrounds and mobile home parks in Coventry and there will be no trash pickup on Monday and Tuesday.

  The Town of Coventry Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in cooperation with all Emergency Response Agencies and Human Services Agencies of the Town of Coventry, continue to prepare for Hurricane Sandy.  At 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Town Council President, Gary Cote, signed a Declaration of Emergency for the Town of Coventry. The Coventry Emergency Operations Center is imposing a voluntary evacuation of all Campgrounds and Mobile Home Parks in the Town of Coventry that we expect to complete by 6:00 p.m. today, Sunday, October 28th. Coventry EMA to Open Shelter at CHS on Sunday Afternoon

EMA officials continue to prepare for hurricane Sandy, asking residents to remove outdoor signs from yards and stay informed.

  The Town of Coventry Emergency Management Staff (EMA) in cooperation with all Emergency Response Agencies and Human Services Agencies of the Town of Coventry, continue to prepare for Hurricane Sandy. The Coventry EMA is monitoring the storm and working hand-in-hand with the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency to gather information needed to make critical storm related decisions.  In preparation for the severe rain and wind expected from Hurricane Sandy which is forecasted to strike our area on Monday the Coventry EOC will be opening a shelter at Coventry High School (40 Reservoir Rd.) at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28th. Emergency Registry Teams With Drug Turn-In

The open registration will provide the town with critical resident information during a time of crisis.

  On Saturday, Apr. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Coventry Emergency Management Agency is hosting a "Coventry On Alert" registration at the Town Hall Annex located at 1675 Flat River Rd. During this time the Coventry Police will also be conducting an annual DEA Drug Turn-In event where members of the public are invited to turn in old prescription drugs for proper disposal. The Coventry On Alert program in conjunction with the Rhode Island Special Needs Emergency Registry serve as a vehicle to obtain critical information about all vulnerable residents in the community who may be unable to provide necessary information in the event of an emergency. Coventry EMA Reiterates Fire Safety

Residents should be reminded that opening burning is currently prohibited.

  The following has been provided to Coventry Patch by the Coventry EMA: The Coventry Emergency Management Staff would like to remind the public that the National Weather Service continues to place Rhode Island at an elevated risk of fire potential due to wind, dry conditions and lack of humidity. While there is no current “Red Flag” warning in effect, the Town of Coventry has experienced no fewer than five substantial brush/woodland fires in the last week. The Coventry Emergency Management Staff would like to remind our residents that open burning, (with the exception of cooking grills), is prohibited in the Town of Coventry and requests cooperation with this matter.
