After town officials confirmed a location for the future Coventry Dog Park in September, organizer Lisa Finneran has been busy making plans for construction, landscaping, fund-raising and other aspects of the undertaking. The park will be established behind the Coventry Town Hall Annex, at 1675 Flat River Rd., in the first field behind the building that stretches into a wooded area. Finneran recently met with Town Manager Tom Hoover to discuss some light excavation work that will allow members of the Coventry Dog Park Association to plant grass seed on the site, a step that will most likely occur in the spring. Finneran also explained that she is awaiting an answer from the Town regarding water access and a meeting place for Association…

Following a meeting with members of the Coventry Town Council on Tuesday night, Coventry Dog Park organizer Lisa Finneran was pleased to announce that the town has confirmed a location for residents to safely (and legally) bring their dogs for some off-leash fun. The park will be established behind what is now called the Coventry Town Hall Annex, at 1675 Flat River Rd. (formerly Washington Oak Elementary School.) Town officials will allow Finneran and members of the Coventry Dog Park Association to utilize the entire first field behind the school that stretches into a wooded area. A committee of local residents will organize and raise funds for Coventry's first dog park.
In the near future, Coventry dog owners will no longer have to travel out of town to allow their dogs to socialize with other local canines in a public setting. Following the August 20 Town Council meeting at which residents Lisa Finneran and Kathleen Levett approached the Council during public comment about their desire to have a dog park in Coventry, town officials agreed to meet with them to discuss the possibility. Finneran and Levett came prepared with answers to numerous questions that might be asked of them when they met with Town Manager Tom Hoover, Town Council President Gary Cote, Vice President Kerry McGee and Parks and Recreation Director Guy Lefebvre last week.
