Residents Celebrate 23rd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Community Center

The tree lighting rang in the holiday season with caroling, snacks, crafts and a visit from Santa.

  Bundled up against the chilly air, a large crowd of residents gathered at the Coventry Community Center to witness the town's 23rd Christmas Tree Lighting. The tree that currently stands on the Center's lawn was moved there from an Indian Trail property in August to replace the former tree that had started to wither after nearly 22 years at the location. Again this year, The Reminder provided caroling songbooks that were handed out with candles. The crowd surrounded the tree and joined the Pawtuxet Valley Community Chorus in singing traditional carols while counting down the minutes until the tree would be come alive with lights. Thompson Again you're using this Christmas Tree and Santa event to complain, complain yadda yadda. All that "sky is falling" running in circles. Who did you say was donating a horse and carriage? Conway Christmas Display Decks the Halls, House and Yard for Charity

The Christmas light display on Maple Valley Road raises donations for the Coventry Food Bank and The Tomorrow Fund.

  The Christmas season is alive and well at Joey Conway's home thanks to his festive collection of lights, figures and decorations that adorn the front yard and driveway of 265 Maple Valley Road. Joey, 17, is a Coventry High School senior, who began helping his dad create the winter wonderland as soon as he could climb a ladder, and in recent years has taken over the display with the help of his younger brother, Matt. The Conway Christmas Lights Extravaganza was officially lit for the 2012 season on Thanksgiving night and has already drawn quite a crowd. This year's display contains 32,000 lights that blink in time with Christmas tunes - up 5,000 from last year when Joey won radio station Lite Rock 105's Christmas Light Contest. Dozens of …
