Principal Mike Hobin was the Guest of Honor at a surprise ceremony on Friday morning.
On Friday morning, Coventry High School Principal Michael Hobin rushed to the school gymnasium after being told there was an urgent situation there and he was needed. This was completely true, but not at all what he expected. The entire student body and faculty, school district officials, and members of the Coventry Police Department, along with Hobin's wife, Susan, and several family members welcomed him with thunderous applause. The reception was well-deserved as Executive Director Patricia A. Hines and her colleagues at the Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP), recently selected Hobin to be named 2013 RI High School Principal of the Year. The decision followed a March 14 visit to CHS from a RIASP selection committee …

Coventry High School's principal has been chosen for the honor by the Rhode Island Association of School Principals Board of Directors.
Writing his “Friday Focus” memo to his faculty each week, for his faculty’s professional growth, Principal Michael Hobin highlights excerpts from his own reading of current educational best practices. He also recognizes one or more teachers who have made an exceptional difference in student learning that week. This positive acknowledgement and professional leadership have served to build strong relationships within this large high school. So, too, Mr. Hobin works consistently to provide opportunities for faculty and staff to become leaders within the school. By encouraging everyone to gain as much professional development training as possible and by permitting risk-taking, Mr. Hobin has promoted an environment of collegiality, …

The performance featured selections from chorus and band students and also recognized graduating seniors.
On Wednesday, May 9, family members and friends, old and young gathered together for the Coventry High School Music Department’s annual Spring Concert. The evening began with director Lisa Masse leading the Concert Chorus in its rendition of the nation's “Star Spangled Banner”, followed by a slower version of “Can You Hear”. The group's next song, “Sinner Man” used a more upbeat tempo used to highlight the male voices within the chorus and was then followed by a more contemporary and modern piece called “Just The Way You Are” highlighting two soloists, Ricky Ordet and Scott Oliver. Before their last song, the seniors of the chorus presented Masse with flowers out of appreciation. As the Concert Chorus left the stage, the curtain opened …

That is a joke. This is the same man who called students' parents and told them that their kids should just drop out because they weren't going to graduate anyway and he didn't want his numbers to fall. He only cares about your education if you are a "perfect" student. If you're not, you are on the complete opposite side of the spectrum and he will treat you like a troublemaker regardless of what…   more ›
