Coventry resident Ethan Spearman was recently recognized for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout - the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program A special Eagle Court of Honor was held Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Armory in East Greenwich to recognize Spearman and four of his fellow Scouts of Troop 147 Quidnessett for their achievement. Andrew Nicastro, Peter Ouellette, Kiffin Ward and Adam Daglieri earned the honor alongside Spearman. Honoring the group was Congressman James Langevin, State Senator James Sheehan, State Representative Doreen Costa, State Representative Lisa Tomasso, Town Council Presidnet Liz Dolan, School Committee Member John Boscardin and Father Andrew Messina of St. Francis de Sales Church– the troop's sponsor. …
Silva organized a 9/11 Memorial Service for his Eagle Scout project.
Brandon Silva was only five when 9/11 happened. When he first joined the Boy Scouts a year later, he was in the first grade. Now Brandon is a 15-year-old sophomore at Coventry High School, and a linebacker for the school's football team. He's been a member of Troop 45 in Exeter for the past five years, and he's earned the title of Life Scout--the rank just before Eagle Scout, the highest rank you can reach in scouting. In order to become an Eagle Scout, Brandon had to plan and carry out a service project. The purpose of these Eagle Scout projects, Brandon said, is “to show leadership; that you can put together a project and make it work, but you don’t do it yourself.” Doing something singlehandedly might be impressive, but it wouldn’t show…
