This Weekend: Project Turkey Tourney, Rams Pink Out and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Tour a Historical Coventry Landmark! Did you know that Spring 2013 marked the Nathanael Greene Homestead's 89th season as a museum? Take a tour at 50 Taft Street in Coventry to learn all about Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene who lived in the home, known as Spell Hall, from 1770 to 1776. Tours are given Fridays, Saturdays (and Mondays too!) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, from 1-5 p.m. Click here to visit the Homestead's Facebook page for more information.

Harvest Breakfast: From 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Cornerstone of Faith United Methodist Church (1081 Main St.) will host a Harvest Breakfast. Menu includes ham, beans, eggs, pancakes, toast, juices and apple crisp. Cost if $6 per adult, $3 per child (10 and under).

October Yard Sale: The Coventry Senior Center (50 Wood St.) will hold its annual Fall Yard Sale on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information or table renting availability, call 822-9175.

Weekend Fun at CPL: On Saturday mornings, the Coventry Public Library hosts Drop-In Crafts to Make & Take where children of all ages can create a fun craft project to take him. Also offered on Saturday mornings is Drop-In Games, during which kids of any change can play board games with friends. No registration required.

2013 Bark For Life: Registration beginning at 9:45 a.m. (or beforehand online, here), will kick off the fourth Bark For Life of Coventry event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the site of the future Coventry Dog Park, behind the Town Hall Annex at 1675 Flat River Road. The event will run until about noon and will benefit the American Cancer Society. Click here for more information.

Project Turkey B-Ball Tourney: At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, the North American Family Institute (NAFI), will hold a Project Turkey Basketball Tournament at Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School (15 Foster Dr.). For more than 20 years, NAFI has been helping families in RI who need help the most around the holidays and has provided hundreds of Thanksgiving Day baskets over the years. CGT Semi-Finals: The Semi Final Night of the second annual Coventry's Got Talent competition will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Cornerstone of Faith Church (1081 Main St.). Audience members 13 years of age and up will be asked to make a $5 admission donation per person. The contest Finals will take place on Friday, Oct. 25. Click here for details.

PYO Berries: From 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at Alpacas of Harkney Hill (1394 Harkney Hill Rd.), customers can "Pick Your Own" low and high-growing wild blueberries and huckleberries to purchase. Informational alpaca demonstrations are also offered at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes! For more information, call 397-4761.

Elks Free-Throw Contest: At 9 a.m. on Sunday, the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge will host its National Hoop Shot Free-Throw Contest at Alan Shaw Feinstein Middle School (15 Foster Dr.). The contest is free and open to boys and girls between 8-13. Winners advance through district, state and regional contests to qualify for the National Finals in April in Springfield, MA. CHS Cross Country Fundraiser: From 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, the Coventry High School Cross Country team is holding a fundraising breakfast at Olde Theater Diner (33 Sandy Bottom Rd.) to raise money for the upcoming season. Tickets are $10 per person.  

HHFD Annual Bazaar & Open House: On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Hopkins Hill Fire District will host its annual Ladies Auxiliary  Arts & Crafts Bazaar and Open House at 1 Bestwick Trail fire station. The event will feature the work of dozens of local artists and vendors just in time to start holiday shopping. In addition, Hopkins Hill firefighters will me making chowder and clambakes to eat in or take out. (Dining in is $10 for adults, $6 for children - all you can eat! A quart of chowder and a dozen clam cakes to take home is $10.) HHFD fire trucks and other apparatus will also be on display.

Rams Pink Out: The Coventry Rams Football teams and Cheerleading squads will host a Pink Out event this Sunday, Oct. 20, to honor families in the community touched by cancer in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A ceremony for honorees featuring members of the RI Honor Guard will take place at approximately 11:30 following the 10:30 a.m. game. Click here for more information.
