This Weekend in Coventry: Luau, Lemonade, Perseids, and Pizza with Pups

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Grab a slice and hear some tunes Friday night at Indigo Lounge & Pizzeria (599 Tiogue Ave.), with featured musicians Mark Cutler and Jimmy Berger from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Let's Build a Dog Park! The second meeting of the official Coventry Dog Park Association will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Dunkin Donuts located at 111 Hopkins Hill Road in West Greenwich (right after the Coventry-WG line). Founder Lisa Finneran will be looking for new members, fundraising ideas and any other input from fellow dog lovers! (If you can't attend, but still want to get involved, contact Lisa at Lfinneran12@gmail.com.)

Get lei'd at the Elks: Break out the Hawaiian shirts, coconut bras and grass skirts! The Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge (42 Nooseneck Hill Rd., West Greenwich), is holding a Luau Party on Saturday, Aug. 10. A social hour will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner buffet at 7 p.m. that will include baked Hawaiian ham, sweet & sour chicken, roast beef and gravy, potatoes, rice, green beans, glazed carrots, dessert and coffee. Live music by "Artbeat" will also be featured. Tickets are $15 per person.

When life gives you lemons…make a meringue pie! If lemonade sounds good this weekend, stop by the 5th Annual Lemonade Stand on Sunday to benefit Hasbro Children's Hospital. A stand will be set up from 12-4 p.m. at two locations in town: 11 Wildflower Drive (Hunters Crossing) and 33 Circlewood Drive (Wood Estates). $1,500 was raised last year, setting this year's goal at $2,000. Stop by and wet your whistle for a good cause.

Indigo has gone to the dogs -- literally! From 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, the pizza joint presents "Dog Day Afternoon", an event that your (well-behaved) dog can attend with you. The fun will take place outside on the patio with DJ Sharon providing musical entertainment.

Did you know that Perseid meteors travel 37 miles per second? Neither did I! Despite their insanely fast rate of speed, you should still be able to spot them this Sunday (Monday, too!) - the peak viewing nights for the shower that will continue through Aug. 24.
