Monday Essentials: CCFD Budget Vote, Renegade Registration and More

Today is Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 and here are some things to know about the week ahead.

CCFD Emergency Hearing: An emergency hearing requested by the CCFD firefighters' union will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Kent County Superior Court to establish certain conduct guidelines for the annual budget meeting scheduled for that evening. Specifically, union members are inquiring whether the court will permit amendments to the tax rate, levy and/or operations budget at the meeting. Click here to view court document for Monday's hearing.

Jacob Aversa Fundraiser: From 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, Panera Bread of East Greenwich will donate 10% of sales to the family of ASFMS 8th grader Jake Aversa who tragically passed away last month at age 13. Click here for more information.

CCFD Annual Meeting: At 7 p.m. on Monday, the Central Coventry Fire District Board of Directors will hold the district's Annual Budget Meeting at Coventry High School. CCFD taxpayers should plan to show up early to register in order to vote on the fiscal 2013-2014 proposed budget and tax levy.

School Committee Meeting: Members of the Coventry School Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the School Administration Offices (1675 Flat River Road). Click here to view this evening's agenda.

Renegade Wrestling Registration: From 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, the 1999 RI State Champs, Coventry Renegade Wrestling will hold registration for boys in age groups 6, 7, 8, 9-10 and 11-12 at the Coventry Community Center. Click here for registration details or to download a sign-up form.

Do You Know Molly? At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, the Coventry High School and Town of Coventry Substance Abuse Prevention committees will host a forum for parents entitled "Do You Know Molly?". Molly is a synthetic, psychoactive drug which has earned much publicity recently for its growing popularity with the teen and young adult community. Toddler Stories and Songs in Greene: The Greene Public Library, located at 179 Hopkins Hollow Road, Greene, will host Toddlers, Tunes & Tales this and each Friday morning from 10-10:30 a.m. The program is intended for children ages 1-3 accompanied by a parent or caregiver and will feature songs, movement and a fun story.
