Click here to view a list of Coventry businesses and offices closed for Labor Day.CHS Blood Drive: From 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Rhode Island Blood Center will be collecting donations in the Coventry High School gymnasium. The Back to School Blood Drive is open to all students, staff, faculty and parents. Note: 16-year-old students must weigh a minimum of 130 pounds to donate and need a signed permission slip available at the front office of nurse's office. Students 17 and older must weight at least 110 pounds, but do not need parental permission. All students who donate will receive a "Get Out of Gym" card good for one class and a coupon for a healthy snack.
Coventry FD Board Meeting: At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, the Coventry (Anthony) Fire District Board of Directors will meet at Anthony Station (571 Washington St.). Agenda items include personnel changes and officer reports. Click here to view the meeting agenda.Elks Fall Pitch Card League: The Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge (42 Nooseneck Hill Rd., West Greenwich) will begin its Fall Pitch (Hi-Lo-Jack) Card League on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. and will continue at that time each Thursday. Cost is $5 per person per week. All adults welcome. At the end of the season, prizes will be handed out at an Awards Dinner. For more information, call Denise at 226-5053.
Greene Homestead Tours: Did you know that Spring 2013 marked the Nathanael Greene Homestead's 89th season as a museum? Take a tour at 50 Taft Street in Coventry to learn all about Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene who built lived in the home, known as Spell Hall, from 1770 to 1776. Tours are given Fridays, Saturdays (and Mondays too!) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, from 1-5 p.m. Click here to visit the Homestead's Facebook page for more information.
