Letter: Help Local Girls Scouts Celebrate 100 Years

Troop 593 needs help funding a trip to Washington, DC in June.

Dear Editor,

I am the troop leader for Girl Scout Troop 593, a small troop of Cadette Girl Scouts ages 13 and 14. We have been working very hard to raise money for a trip to Washington DC in June to attend the Rock the Mall event - a celebration for the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting being held June 8-10.

My girls have held several fundraisers including a magazine and candy sale, Girl Scout cookie sale, Papa Gino's fundraiser, a car wash and most recently a yard sale. We have raised just over $1,500. With the event only a few weeks away, we find ourselves about $1,000 short of our goal and our trip is in jeopardy.

In addition to the event itself, we have plans to visit the monuments, the Smithsonian museums, and a visit to the National Zoo. Most of my girls have never travelled outside of New England, so this trip will not only be a fun, bonding experience for us, but also a learning experience.

I have written letters to several local leaders hoping that perhaps there will be some grant money available. I was hoping you could help us get the word out to local businesses. Any help we could get would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Teal N. Griswold
Leader Troop 593 Coventry
