Benefit Concert Raises Hundreds for Crash Victim's Family

Friday night's hip-hop show raised $1,000 for the family of Doug Auger.

 

Roughly 300 friends to pay tribute to an 18-year-old Coventry man killed in a car accident.

Doug Auger lost control of his 2002 Honda Civic and hit a tree on Fish Hill Road around midnight on Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local hip-hop artist and Basketball coach, Brandon “Renaissance” Sweeney, was scheduled to play at the on Sandy Bottom Road Friday night. When Sweeney heard about the accident, he decided to donate a portion of the proceeds in Auger's honor. He was an assistant basketball coach for Auger, and knows his family well.

One dollar from each $5 admission was donated to the Auger family. An additional $700 in donations were made during the evening, including entries in a 50/50 raffle, adding up to $1,000 that went directly to the family.

"It was good to see so many people came out," said Andrew Boyer, Sweeney's manager. "Just the $700 in donations alone was great. The $1,000 will go directly to the Auger family."
