School Committee Approves Various District Appointments

Multiple teachers and school employees were appointed at Tuesday's School Committee meeting.

During the July 24 meeting of the Coventry School Committee, several Coventry teachers and school-related employees were appointed to positions with the Coventry school district.

At the Committee's last meeting, Superintendent Michael Almeida explained that school officials now know what their needs and budget limitations are, allowing the district to be in a position to secure staff for the 2013-2014 school year.

Administrative Appointments

  • Cheryl Coogan was appointed to the position of Special Education/Universal Learning Support System (ULSS) Director for the 2013-2014 school year, effective August 15. She will be replacing Susan Lyons who resigned from the position in June.
Dr. Almeida explained that Coogan will be coming to the district from the Cranston school department. "Certainly her talent and expertise will bring us closer to closing the gap between where we are and where we want to be with our special services program," he said.

"I like a challenge and I'm looking forward to working with students closely again, which is something that I haven't had the chance to do for several years," said Coogan. "I thank you very much for this opportunity."

  • Dr. Arthur Lisi was appointed to the position of Principal of Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School, effective July 25. He will be replacing ASFMS principal Jennifer Roy, who recently resigned from the position, electing instead to serve as assistant principal. Click here for additional coverage on Dr. Lisi's appointment.
