School Committee Appoints Two Dual Positions

At Tuesday night's meeting, members of the Coventry School Committee voted to appoint two existing employees to new dual-purpose positions after approving the resignations of two employees.

Committee members approved the resignation of Physical Plan Director Brian Steverman, effective March 29, 2013. Steverman will be retiring after nearly 40 years with the district.

"Brian has shown an extreme amount of dedication to this district during his time here and we will miss him greatly," said Superintendent Mike Almeida.

In his place, the Committee approved the appointment of Jason Martin to the .5 position of Director of Technology combined with the .5 position of Director of Buildings and Grounds, effective Nov. 1, 2012. Martin formerly held the position of Asst. Director of Physical Plant and brings experience and expertise to both departments. 

The Committee also approved the resignation of Mary Lou Buonaccorsi who has held the position of Human Resources Director for the school department for more than eight years, effective Dec. 14, 2012.

"Mary Lou has done an exceptional job and we are sorely going to miss her services," said Almeida.

To fill Buonaccorsi's position, members voted to consolidate the departments of Human Resources and Finance and appoint Robin Pelletier to the new position of Director of Administration and Finance effective Nov. 1, 2012. Pelletier had previously been the Director of Business and Finance.

"I think that this committee is confident that you will both do excellent jobs in your new positions," said Committee Chair Kathy Patenaude.

Committee members also appointed Michael Robinson to the position of Technician for Administration, effective Oct. 23, 2012.

Superintendent Almeida explained that Robinson had been working as a contracted consultant for the school department for five months prior to his appointment.

"Michael has done an exceptional job and continues to go above and beyond," he said. "We have a definite need for someone to do the type of work that he has been doing." 

The next School Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at Coventry High School.
