Blackrock Teachers 'Wipe Out' to Reward Students

Blackrock students surpassed their Pennies for Patients goal, earning themselves an entertaining reward.

On the last day of school, teachers made good on their promise to students for raising over $2,500 for Pennies for Patients during the March.

Students were treated to watching a Wipe-Out type obstacle course designed by Physical Education Teacher, Derek Hitte. The course involved obstacles that required teachers to be quick and skilled. The final obstacle (pictured) was to walk across a balance beam over pools to the finish line. Each teacher was timed individually through the course with the fastest time getting bragging rights. Fourth grade teacher Christyna Bousquet won the event with a time of 1:19.

Blackrock has been actively participating in the Rhode Island Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients fundraising for years. Each year the faculty issue a challenge to students for meeting a monetary goal. For the past five years, students have surpassed the goal. In addition, students participated in a school-wide bingo game as validation of their efforts.
