AG Kilmartin to Bring 'Txting & Driving - It Can Wait' Campaign to Coventry High School

Nearly 400 CHS seniors will pledge to not text while driving following AG Kilmartin's presentation.

On Thursday morning, Oct. 31, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), the Rhode Island State Police (RISP) and AT&T will bring the “Txting & Driving… It Can Wait” public awareness campaign to Coventry High School, where approximately 400 seniors will sign a pledge to not text while driving.

The assembly will feature CHS Principal Michael Hobin demonstrating a driving simulator that shows how much texting affects a driver’s ability to maintain control of a vehicle. AG Kilmartin, Coventry Police Chief Bryan Volpe and representatives from RIDOT and RISP will talk to the students about the dangers of distracted driving and share a powerful documentary on the topic.

Following the documentary, students will be asked to sign a pledge that they will not text while driving.
