Tom Hetherman Announces Candidacy for Town Council District 1

Submitted by Thomas Hetherman

Dear Coventry Voters,

At this time I am formally announcing my candidacy for the District 1 Town Council seat. As many of you know I have served the past four years on the Coventry School Committee. While on the School Committee, I was able to preserve all programs for the town’s children during extremely difficult financial times. This was done through hard work and collaboration with the past two Town Councils.

Over my four-year term I have worked diligently with all members of the School Committee and Town Council regardless of their political affiliation. Over my term, I have embraced the wisdom and experience of Raymond Spear along with other prominent town leaders. Ray and I have worked hand in hand for the common good of the town of Coventry.

During this “non-partisan” town election I have asked for no one’s endorsement feeling that my record could speak for itself. However, my opponent has decided to send a standard endorsement letter signed by Raymond Spear. Raymond has had a stellar career as a public servant to the town of Coventry and I hope, by his example  I will be able to continue his work as I did when I was elected to fulfill his School Committee seat.

In these times, Coventry needs proven leadership, which Ray exemplifies, and that experience can only be obtained by holding a previous office such as the School Committee. We have significant problems facing us and we will need someone with proven leadership and the ability to work with all parties as I have done during the past four years.

Thank you,

Thomas Hetherman
