RIDOT: Laurel Ave. Bridge Construction Update - October

From October 7‐October 20, 2012 the following operations will be in effect:

Week of October 7

  • Install granite curb on the bridge and the roadway approaches. Commence forming the bridge sidewalks and parapets.

  • No evening work is anticipated for this project.

Week of October 20

  • Complete the formwork for the bridge parapets and place concrete in the bridge sidewalks and parapets. Cure the sidewalks and parapets. Loam and seed bridge approach slopes.

  • No evening work is anticipated for this project.

Looking Ahead (Mid‐October to Mid‐November):

  • Complete as‐built plans and records.

  • Curing the sidewalks and parapets. Commence applying the concrete surface treatment to parapets.
  • Install guardrail approach sections and bridge rail and road signs.

During construction, motorists and neighbors on Washington Street (Route 117), Pilgrim Avenue, and Laurel Avenue, and on the Coventry Greenway, should expect to see activity at any time. Noise may be experienced at times. Work on the bridge will be confined to the sections of Laurel Avenue already closed to through traffic.

Looks pretty damn good. Now the town needs to widen the road to match the bridge width.

Now if only the police would enforce the speed limit of 25MPH on Pilgrim Ave! When the bridge opens, we'll have even more speeders. Having the bridge back in use will be bittersweet.
