STATE HOUSE - State Representative Patricia Morgan (R-West Warwick, Warwick, Coventry) is traveling to Washington DC this week to participate in the International Women’s Day conference sponsored by the Women’s Democracy Network (WDN).
The WDN is an initiative of the International Republican Institute, which works to increase women’s political participation, leadership and representation in elected office.
While there, Morgan will take part in the annual Jeanne J. Kirkpatrick Award ceremony on March 6, named for the first woman U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Receiving this year’s award will be U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (NH) and Selima Ahmad, founder and former president of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI).
Morgan is the only invited guest from the New England states. She has been involved with the WDN for a number of years, and has worked on its behalf to Ukraine, Moldova, Jordan and Turkey to advance the role of women in politics and government.
No taxpayer funds are being used to pay for travel or expenses, Morgan said.
