Members Appointed to Human Services, Historic District Boards

Eight Coventry residents were appointed between the two boards on Monday.

During Monday's meeting, Town Council members appointed eight Coventry residents to two Town boards, one already in existence and one recently formed.

To the newly established Coventry Historic District Commission, Council appointed the following five regular members and one auxiliary member:

  • Charles Vacca, to a term expiring Aug. 1, 2014.
  • Mark Gardner, to a term expiring Aug. 1, 2015.
    • Carl Mattson, to a term expiring Aug. 1, 2015.
    • Andrew Boisvert, to a term expiring Aug. 1, 2016.
    • Norma Smith, to a term expiring Aug. 1, 2016.
    • Sandy Lukowicz, auxiliary member, to a term expiring Aug. 1, 2014.

On May 13, Council members approved the establishment of a historic district, currently consisting of the Paine House and Washington Fire Alarm Headquarters. Coupled with this decision was the founding of the Coventry Historic Commission approved by the Council with hopes that its members can help gain traction within the tourism industry by promoting Coventry's many historic properties.

The Commission's formation will also greatly aid grant and endowment opportunities needed to fund maintenance and updates to the properties. Without a Historic Commission and a historic district, Coventry would not qualify for the much-needed funding.
