By the Friends of Nick Denice:
Denice, a Certified Fraud Examiner studying for his doctorate degree in law, has recently announced that he is running for State Representative in House District 26.
Nick Denice is a champion of financial responsibility and good government for the people of Rhode Island. He has a master’s degree in accounting and expertise in fraud detection, budgeting, accounting, law, and finance. Nick also studied Political Economy at the London School of Economics and Political Science, recognized by the Fulbright Commission as the leading social science institution in the world. This background makes him uniquely qualified to represent the interests of the voters in West Warwick, Coventry, Warwick and all of Rhode Island.
“We need strong financial leadership at the State House to reinvigorate Rhode Island’s economy," said Nick recently.
Financial Leadership is Key
Nick is a proven leader having led efforts on the local level to reform municipal pensions and establish a Town Audit Committee to improve transparency and accountability.
As an unpaid Pension Board Vice Chairman, Denice, a Democrat, helped save West Warwick over $40,000 in this year alone by finding lower priced and higher quality professional services. Nick has been a vocal advocate of the importance of properly funding and reforming the pension system to prevent West Warwick from entering bankruptcy. He will fight for reversing the massive cuts to state aid that placed cities and towns on the financial brink.
“This state can no longer balance its budget on the backs of financially distressed communities," he has said. "The cuts to state aid must be restored. I will fight to keep West Warwick from bankruptcy to avoid massive cuts to services, huge tax increases, and plummeting home values. This is the challenge of this generation and I do not intend to sit idly by and do nothing.”
Nick will focus on revitalizing the economy to bring jobs to the state. “My campaign is focused on promoting a pro-business climate in the state to create jobs. We need to simplify the tax code and streamline regulations. We must engage in true economic development and not the crony capitalism of the Curt Schilling deal. My financial background will help me to get this done.”
Nick’s family has lived in West Warwick for four generations since emigrating from Italy and French-Canada after the Civil War. He has lived on his family’s original homestead in Phenix for over twenty years.
Nick attended West Warwick High School, graduating as class salutatorian, going on to Bryant University in Smithfield. There, he earned a bachelors and masters degree in Accounting, summa cum laude. He is currently a law student at Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, RI. He is a Certified Public Accountant candidate (CPA) and has previously worked at the RI Office of the Auditor General and the world’s largest accounting firm, PwC, performing tax services for many Fortune 500 clients.
Nick is an NCAA soccer referee and is a past recipient of the RI Referee of the Year Award in 2006. He has volunteered as a referee mentor and West Warwick Soccer Association coach. Nick coordinated a book drive at Wakefield Hills Elementary School in 2008 that resulted in over 300 books being given away to second graders. Nick serves as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church and has done volunteer work for the Diocese of Providence and Habitat for Humanity.
Nick’s family all live in West Warwick where his father Jim coaches the Deering Middle School Girls Soccer team, his mother Patricia is an apartment manager, and his sister Kimberly is a junior at West Warwick High School.
