Coventry Dems Endorse Angel Taveras for RI Governor

At Monday night’s meeting, the Coventry Democratic Town Committee endorsed Mayor Angel Taveras in his bid for Rhode Island's Democratic nomination for Governor. 

“We met with both candidates, Mayor Taveras and Treasurer Raimondo, and felt we had a clear choice,” said Committee Chairman Frank Hyde.

“Mayor Taveras is a great leader who helped save Providence from bankruptcy by working with people and making tough choices. We believe he is going to stand up for Coventry and fight for working families," Hyde went on to say. "Just look at how much Providence has improved in such a short time. It takes a real leader to make that happen." 

The final vote tally was 17 in support of Taveras, one vote for Raimondo, and two abstentions.

The Democratic Committee says they "believe in Taveras' message for hope and change".
