Coventry Becomes RI's Fifth HeartSafe Community

The HeartSafe recognition was earned through ongoing community preparedness in the event of heart-related emergencies.

On Monday night, Town Council members recognized the Coventry Wellness Community for working to make Coventry the fifth Rhode Island community to receive the HeartSafe recognition, joining Warwick, Westerly, East Providence and South Kingstown.

The Rhode Island HeartSafe program evaluates a community’s preparedness to respond to heart related emergencies and takes into account the number of citizens trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the availability of automated external defibrillator (AED) devices within the community, the coordinated response between police and fire services, and the incorporation of CPR and AED devices into emergency action plans for public buildings.

The Coventry HeartSafe program has been coordinated by a group of dedicated individuals that represent the town’s fire and medical services, and various town departments. This group has organized under the name of “Coventry Wellness Community” with the hopes to expand its contributions to other health related programs. This program’s success is dependent on the commitment of its citizens, businesses, and organizations to receive training and funding to procure and maintain the AED devices within the community.

To ensure continued recognition, the Coventry Wellness Community will be working to provide the following services for the community:
