Western Coventry EMT Suspended for Sexual Harassment of Coworker

Dept. of Health Director Michael Fine has ordered the indefinite suspension of 32-year-old Randy Crowe's EMT license.

The Emergency Medical Technician license of a Western Coventry EMT was suspended on Thursday following accusations against him of recent sexual misconduct toward a female coworker.

According to a Summary Suspension provided by the RI Dept. of Health (HEALTH), 32-year-old Randy Crowe, an EMT on the Western Coventry Fire Department, was accused by a younger female coworker of acting inappropriately in a sexual manner after he asked her to climb inside a rescue truck at WCFD's Summit Station on May 21 so "he could practice placing electrocardiogram (ECG) leads on her under the guise of teaching her how to do so properly."

The HEALTH report states that instead of traditionally placing the four ECG lines on the wrists and ankles, Crowe "placed two leads on her hips and collar bone" and while doing so "pulled her pants down". According to the report, "the Complainant also alleges that [Crowe] brushed her chest, told her to 'keep smiling' and pulled her face close to his in 'almost a kissing motion.'"

The Complainant stated that she then jumped off the vehicle and walked outside to her car, where she alleges that Crowe "followed her, hugged her and kissed her on the side of the head."

According to HEALTH documents, when Chief Steven Quattrini notified him of the allegation on May 25, Crowe said "I quit".

HEALTH Director Michael Fine has suspended Crowe's EMT license indefinitely pending further order, stating in his summary that its continuation "constitutes an imminent threat to the health, welfare and safety of the public".

Crowe's EMT license had already been in probationary status since June 1, 2009, when information obtained in conjunction with his license application noted multiple misdemeanor and felony offenses including but not limited to fraudulent use of checks and credit cards, forgery, counterfeiting, receiving stolen goods, and willful trespass during the time period of Sept. 5, 1999 and Nov. 5, 2005.
