State Police Carrying Narcan to Combat Heroin 'Epidemic'

There have been 90 overdose deaths in the state in the first three months of the year.

State police will now be equipped with Narcan, a controversial drug that can save heroin overdose victims.

Public health officials have declared heroin abuse an "epidemic." The Providence Journal reported there have been 90 overdose deaths in the state in the first three months of the year.

Critics say Narcan provides a false of security for drug users. 

State police announced on Friday that they will start carrying the drug.
