RI Firefighters "Care Enough to Wear Pink"

The third annual "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign is a coordination between the RI chapter of Pink Heals and firefighters across Rhode Island.

The RI Pink Heals has once again teamed up with firefighters throughout the State of Rhode Island to wear pink tee shirts while on duty to support the women of RI with all types of cancer. The shirts are pink because it is the color of women, not the color of the disease. The shirts are being worn by all of the participating fire departments from Oct. 21-28, 2012.

This year, the shirts also have the name "Jenna" on the left sleeve to remember 9-year-old Jenna Jacques who passed away on July 6, 2012 from brain cancer. Jenna was an advocate for childhood cancer in RI and also who the RI Pink Heals named their pink rescue after. It was also special to put Jenna's name on the shirts because Wednesday, Oct. 24 would have been her 10th birthday.

Firefighters throughout RI purchased the shirts with their own money and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Hasbro Children's Hospital and the RI Ronald McDonald House. The donation will be more than $19,000.

The RI Pink Heals will be touring the participating fire departments during this week to thank all the men and women who have supported this great cause. They will be at Western Coventry Fire Department (1110 Victory Hwy., Greene) on Oct. 24 from 6-7 p.m. and at Central Coventry Fire District (240 Arnold Rd.) on Oct. 25 from 4-5 p.m.
