Extra police will be patrolling the Frenchtown-Tillinghast-High Hawk areas Friday morning, and Frenchtown Elementary School.

A possibly rabid fox that bit two people in East Greenwich Thursday afternoon was still on the loose at 10:30 p.m. last night.

One person was attacked on Arbor Way and another on Tillinghast Road in East Greenwich. Police plan to have an increased presence on hand for the morning in that area, including at Frenchtown Elementary School.

According to one account, an Arbor Way resident was attacked while walking from her car to her house. A middle school student heard screams, saw the fox attacking her mother and saw the animal run away. EG rescue took the woman to the hospital. There was no word Thursday night on her condition.

A resident of Tillinghast Road near Arrowhead Trail was also attacked, according to police. She, too, was taken by rescue to the hospital. There is no word on her condition.

EG police continued to patrol the area Thursday night. Other departments called in to help were the state Dept. of Environmental Management, R.I. State Police, and the North Kingstown PD.

While the fox has so far only been seen in East Greenwich, it could wander into Coventry. Police ask that residents use caution Friday and to contact them immediately at 401-884-2244 if they see the fox.
