Pet Preparedness: RISPCA Offers 'Almost Free' Rabies Clinic
With Hurricane Sandy looming in the distance, pet owners should make sure that have up-to-date vaccinations. Animal shelters will turn away unvaccinated pets.
Making sure your animals are safe and sound during a hurricane is important, but pre-storm preparation and post-storm caution are just as crucial. Be aware that in the event that your pet needs stay at an animal shelter to ride out the storm, you must be able to show proof of up-to-date vaccinations.
Coventry Animal Control Officer Jessica Zakowski urges residents to take advantage of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA)'s "Almost Free" Rabies Clinic this Saturday, Oct. 27.

The clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at RISPCA auditorium, located at 186 Amaral St., Riverside, RI, 02915.
Pet owners are asked to bring five cans/boxes of non-perishable (human) food in exchange for a FREE Rabies Vaccination. (All food must have a valid expiration date or vaccination will be $8.)

The vaccines are valid for dogs, cats and ferrets. All pets must be leashed or in carriers upon arrival. Bring previous vaccination records, if possible. (Vaccine is only valid for a one-year certificate if proof of current vaccine is not provided.)
