UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck on Washington Street Dies From Injuries

Authorities say the Coventry man remains at Rhode Island Hospital with a serious head injury.

Update - Dec. 4, 2:13 p.m.: A Coventry man has died from injuries sustained when he was hit by a vehicle on Washington Street around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 23.

According to Coventry Police, Erik Johnson, 43, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, at Rhode Island Hospital, two days after he suffered a serious head injury when a car driven by a 17-year-old Coventry girl struck him as he was walking on Washington Street.

The driver, whose identity will not be released due to her age, was taken to Kent Hospital and released. No charges have been filed.

Update - Nov. 24, 11:50 a.m.: According to a WPRI 12 report, the driver is said to be a 17-year-old Coventry woman. She was transported to Kent Hospital Saturday night.

Update - Nov. 24, 6:58 a.m.: According to authorities, the victim, currently identified only as a 43-year-old Coventry man, remains at Rhode Island Hospital where he is being treated for what appears to be serious head trauma.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, a pedestrian was struck in the area of 613 Washington Street in Coventry.

Coventry Police closed a portion of the street and have been directing traffic around the scene through nearby roads.

Emergency responders report that the victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital's trauma unit, however the extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
