No Plan Yet to Deal with Coventry Fire District Closure

The Central Coventry Fire District is set to close May 16.

Officials are scrambling to deal with the looming closure of the Central Coventry Fire District.

Last month, a judge ordered the liquidation of the fire district after it went bankrupt. The order mandates that the district close by May 16. That means 44 firefighters and four administrators will lose their jobs.

The Central Coventry Fire District is the largest of the town's four fire districts.

Ideas discussed included establishing a volunteer fire department or having the three other fire districts absorb the Central Coventry area.

Local and state officials met Monday night in a nonpublic session but no plan was agreed to, according to ABC6.com.

and I do know a lot about that fire Steve as I lost a dozen friends there , had dozens of friends severely injured inside the fire trap and actually had been in the place dating back when it was my dad's State Gov. Union Hall . PS> I disliked the place as a rock venue and even as a place to go have a good time as I didn't like how confined the place was and was the last place one in the know would want to be. Over crowding and very low ceilings is not a safe place to be .

Funny and not surprising Steve is that you speak for yourself , your fellow workers yet not for the victims nor their families and friends . I expected that and thanks .

Reasonable taxpayer. I have moved the topic you referred to. Melvin J. Ferd III March 29, 2014 at 11:47 PM I am very uncomfortable with the following comments. I feel the aggressive stance is not one a public official should take. His comment is more a threat than an invitation to resolve conflict. "Steve Fay March 29, 2014 at 05:11 PM Mr. Badger, I invite you to air your differences/complaints face to face with me. I will be at work tomorrow evening and give you an open invitation. Station 1 Warwick Fire Department Headquarters, 111 Veterans Memorial Drive. I'll be there at 1700 hrs. then through the night. Feel free to stop by. Ask for Captain Fay. You see I am a taxpayer in CCFD so I have a financial stake in all this as well."

You see here Melvin no one will take responsibility in this 3 million in overspending like they didn't know It was happening right underneath their very noses . Of course the responsibility goes right to the very top but that is where agendas come in . They will even blame the taxpayers of all things .
