Friends Remember Coventry Teen Who Died Skateboarding

Jamie Mayer was honored during a fundraiser at Franklin Piece University in Rindge, N.H.

Friends of Jamie Mayer, a Coventry teenager who died following a skateboarding mishap last year, honored his life during a concert at Franklin Pierce University last week.

The Keene Sentinel reported Saturday's "Rock for Jamie" event in Rindge, N.H. helped raise money for a memorial fund for Coventry High School students.

In April 2013, Mayer was skateboarding at Franklin Pierce when he collided with another skateboarder. He suffered a serious head injury and died about two weeks later.

Mayer wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, authorities said. The event Saturday helped spread awareness of the importance of helmet use, the Sentinel reported.
