Fire Engulfs Vacant Western Coventry House

The Piggy Lane blaze has been deemed suspicious and is under investigation.

Western Coventry Fire crews were dispatched at 4:35 a.m. on Thursday to 208 Piggy Lane for a structure fire. Mutual aid was given by Central Coventry, Hopkins Hill and Hianloland fire companies - A crew from West Greenwich FD had also been dispatched but was canceled before arrival.

The dwelling is believed to have been vacant and did not have electricity connected to it. When crews arrived on scene, it was fully involved, with the roof and several walls having already collapsed.

According to WCFD Captain Kelly Guastini, the same vacant dwelling had been damaged in a fire along with another house nearby in August of 2010.

"This fire is suspicious and continues to be under investigation" said Capt. Guastini Thursday morning. "The state fire marshal and Coventry Police have been there already this morning and are looking into it."
