CPD Asks Residents To Lock Vehicles, Report Suspicious Activity

Police urge residents to lock their cars even if parked in their own driveway, as most thieves move on to an easier target if they find a car locked.

The Coventry Police Dept. is asking residents for their help in preventing theft from vehicles, which continues to be an ongoing problem townwide.

Sgt. Alex DeMolles urges all residents to lock their vehicles when left unattended, even in their own driveway.

According to Sgt. DeMolles, police have noticed a rise in reported cases of tampering/thefts from unlocked vehicles during the nighttime hours, and says that the incidents are not isolated to one section of town and are occurring sporadically.

"We would kindly ask that in addition to locking all of your motor vehicles, that you also report any suspicious activity observed in your neighborhoods by calling the police department’s non-emergency line (401) 826-1100," reads a community service announcement from CPD. “By taking these small measures, it would greatly assist us in preventing these incidents from occurring in the future.”
