Coventry, Scituate Police Make $250,000 Pot Bust in Joint Investigation

Five men facing felony drug charges after police seize 89 marijuana plants and 17.5 pounds of pot.

Five area men, including two from Coventry, are facing felony drug charges for running an alleged marijuana growing and processing operation in a building in the Hope Mill Complex in Scituate and out of a house in Coventry.

A six-week joint investigation between Coventry and Scituate Police culminated Wednesday during two raids. 

At the mill complex, police seized 62 marijuana plants, 14 pounds of pot, of which 10 pounds was processed; two cars and several thousand dollars in support equipment.

The other raid was at a house at 57 Fairview Ave. in Coventry, where police seized 27 plants, 3.5 pounds of processed marijuana, a car and more support equipment.

All told, police captured 89 marijuana plants and 17.5 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $250,000.

The following four men were arraigned in Kent County District Court on charges of manufacturing and possession with intent to deliver and controlled substance conspiracy:

Desmond Ferreira, 37 of 57 Fairview Ave., Coventry. He was released on $5,000 bail with surety.

Joshua Smith, 28, of 550 Victory Highway, Exeter. He was released on $10,000 bail with surety.

Shane Fisher, 28, of 55 Harmony Court, Warwick. He was released on $10,000 bail with surety.

David Leroux, 51, of 52 Taft St., Coventry. He as held without bail on a previous offense. His bail on the new charges was set at $25,000 with surety.

The fifth suspect is awaiting arraignment, police said.
